Changes with Engines in USA Car Market
Some are saying, “four is the new six.” V6 engines are becoming less and less popular in the American car market. Over the past six years, 4 cylinder engines in new car sales have been rising. Four cylinders finally outsold V6 engines in 2009. They account for 43 percent of vehicles sold in 2011.This seems logical with the price increase of gasoline that we have all seen in recent years.
This trend has also crossed over into the V8 market. The American icon the V-8 motor is declining is sales drastically. It has been cut in half from what it did sense 05. For the first time since 1985, the Ford F150 V6 has outsold the V8! The sales of V6s outsold the V8s by more than half.
There are 2 major reasons why this trend is happening. # 1. From the consumer, they are more conscious about gas consumption as people try to downsize. # 2. The manufacturers are trying to cut down the amount of bigger sized engine to get ready for 2016 federal fuel economy rules. Manufacturers are now preparing to test the market on a 3 cylinder engine.
This is all a good sign for a greener USA as conscious groups of people shift over to smaller engines. The manufacturers have noticed this change in demand and will accommodate the needs of the people and the earth. Soon we might be talking about no cylinder electric engines taking over the 4 or 3 cylinder markets.
